Luís Gomes
Luís Gomes studied at the National Conservatory and graduated at the Escola Superior
Música de Lisboa, Rotterdam Conservatory, and has also a master’s degree in
Psychology and Pedagogy of Music by the FCSH, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
He is currently finishing is doctorate degree in Évora University.
Luís Gomes obtained several prizes and has been Jury at several National and
International Clarinet and Bass Clarinet Competitions.
An internationally renowned bass clarinet player and teacher, he was the pioneer of
the bass clarinet as a solo instrument in Portugal, having a major role in spreading the
literature and performance of this instrument.
Having played with the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, the Mediterranean Youth
Orchestra, Nova Filarmonia, Sinfónica Juvenil and Orquestra Portuguesa da Juventude,
he collaborated regularly with: Calouste Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfónica
Portuguesa, Orchestrutopica, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa and Sinfonietta de
Lisboa.
He played as a soloist with: Orchestrutopica, Orquestra de Cascais e Oeiras, the Lisbon
Contemporary Music Group, Banda da Armada Portuguesa, Banda de Alcochete,
CRAM Orchestra, Monterrey Clarinet Festival Orchestra and Symphonic Band PSP.
Member of the Lisbon Contemporary Music Group, Rumos Ensemble, and Lisbon
Clarinet Quartet, he is the Director of CULTIVARTE Cultural Association. In addition to
this, he plays the Extended Duo with the pianist Ana Telles.
He is a clarinet, bass clarinet and chamber music teacher at the National
Conservatory and Évora University.
Luís Gomes is a Selmer Paris and Vandoren artist.
